The Easter Song in My Head – This I Believe (The Creed)

The first Easter songs that pop into my head tend to begin with the cross or the blood – essentially the death of Jesus. Of course there is a lot more to Jesus’ death than the crucifixion but for non-believers looking in, a dead Saviour is not really extraordinary news.

But the resurrection changes all that. It is the heart of Christianity. It gives hope for the future as we have a Messiah who not only died, but rose again and is alive! So yes, the resurrection is quite a big deal for the message of Easter and the Christian faith.

Bible Verse Romans 10 verse 9 for Easter 2018 post

This is where the song, This I Believe, comes in. I think it summarises the foundations of Christianity quite nicely* – the trinity, the immaculate conception, the death, the resurrection, the forgiveness, the ascension, the rule, the return, the judgement and the eternal life.

This I Believe (The Creed), Hillsong Worship

Our Father everlasting
The all creating One
God Almighty
Through Your Holy Spirit
Conceiving Christ the Son
Jesus our Savior

I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus

Our Judge and our Defender
Suffered and crucified
Forgiveness is in You
Descended into darkness
You rose in glorious life
Forever seated high

I believe in You
I believe You rose again
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord

I believe in life eternal
I believe in the virgin birth
I believe in the saints’ communion
And in Your holy Church
I believe in the resurrection
When Jesus comes again
For I believe, in the name of Jesus

*If you’ve read the Apostles’ Creed, which this song is based on, you may have your reservations regarding the omissions of certain parts of it. The Creed isn’t in the scripture so enjoy it as a song and base your faith in the word of God!
